Let’s Transmit Some Clean Power
We think the Governor’s Office read our blog last week on how much NY has to catch up to meet our climate action goals, got the press team together, and hit go!

Our Climate Goals Must Become Our Construction Goals
Three years ago, New York instituted into law one of the nation’s most ambitious climate action plans - shifting its energy grid from fossil fuels burning the planet to a suite of renewable resources that can power homes, businesses, and everyday life across the state by 2050.

The Election That Matters for Planet Earth
Brazilians elected Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as their next President. Few political issues have higher global stakes than the conservation of the Amazon, and Lula’s victory is a huge win for Planet Earth.

Sandy + 10
Ten years on from Hurricane Sandy, efforts are inching away rather than progressing at warp speed.

Do Look Up!
You might not believe it, but New York City has over 7 million trees, hundreds of acres of woodlands, and miles of trails scattered across the 5 boroughs!

Creative Design meets Public Infrastructure!
It wasn’t long ago that public infrastructure projects were both functional and beautiful. With funding from the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Bill and $385 billion of climate spending from the Inflation Reduction Act, we have a unique opportunity to reimagine the role infrastructure can serve in cities.

Dry Take
21 counties across New York are on a drought watch by the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation - unfortunately this fate will likely become the norm as the world heats up. The good news is that there are several new climate tech solutions hitting the market to help us manage our water resources.

Heat Pumps for New York City’s Largest Landlord
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing organization in the United States, created in 1935. New York’s leaders announced $70 million in initial funding to deploy 30,000 window-sized electric heat pumps in developments across NYCHA’s portfolio.

The One We’ve Been Waiting For
In a late July surprise, Senate Democrats had their cake and ate it too. Immediately following the passage of the CHIPs Act by Republicans, the Democrats delivered a 1-2 punch aptly marketed as “The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.” We finally have a climate deal! If passed, this will be…

The Title Says It All
It's so hot, they've wrapped a bridge in foil in the UK.
It's so hot, a museum roof melted in China.
It’s so hot, wildfires are burning in Greece.
It's so hot, pipes are bursting in the US.
It’s so hot, wheat crops are damaged in India.
It’s so hot, meteorologists named a heat wave for the first time in Spain.
IT’S SO HOT.

CSI Gowanus
Celebrating City of Water Day with the Waterfront Alliance, the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club, and the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, I got to go deep - literally and figuratively - into the storied history of one of New York City’s major watersheds.

The Empire State Standing Tall on Climate Action
As we watch so much gridlock at the federal level when it comes to robust climate action, it’s important to remember that New York is the 10th largest economy in the world - we are not only policymakers, but also marketmakers when it comes to leading a just transition!

It’s Not Pretty: New York Before the EPA Cleaned It Up
Last week, the Supreme Court stripped the EPA of a crucial tool to regulate GHG emissions, thereby removing its power to respond to the most pressing environmental challenge of our time. Today we’re going back in history to show what New York City looked like before we cared about our air, water, and soil - and what we need to do to ensure our past doesn’t turn into our future.

Reproductive Justice = Climate Justice
The decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and take away reproductive rights from millions of women across this country is an assault on the rights of humanity at large. It impacts half of our society, and in particular, the lowest income groups among us who suffer from economic and environmental injustices daily.

Show Your Stripes
All hands - and feet - on deck! Having spent my career connecting the dots between cities, climate, and capital, I’ve learned that one of the most important things we can do to fight climate change is to talk about it. And a great way to start that conversation is to #ShowYourStripes!

Juneteenth and the Fight for Climate Justice
On Juneteenth, we come together to celebrate the ancestors and leaders who fought for freedom. Their power, resiliency, and tenacity lives on today, as we continue to fight for equal rights and environmental justice for communities across the country.

A Green Oasis at School
Third-graders at P.S. 213 in East New York, Brooklyn have fewer skinned knees these days! It’s because the elementary school’s hard asphalt playground has been transformed into a green oasis with gardens, trees, an outdoor classroom, a gazebo, open play areas, and a multitude of child-friendly features.
